What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning “Universal Life-Force-Energy”. A practitioner serves as the conduit for that energy to promote healing or relaxation by either hands-on or distance techniques utilizing the chakra system. Reiki sessions can be administered with the client fully clothed or incorporated into a massage session. More questions about Reiki? Check out:

I think I might be sick, should I get a massage right now?

If you have any of the conditions below, you should not get a massage.

The key is to not aggravate an underlying condition, or get your therapist sick. Massage increases circulation which can worsen all of the above conditions. Reiki, however, is often safe for conditions contraindicated for massage. Please inquire if you are unsure.

I’m pregnant. Can I get a massage?

Congratulations! If you’re in your 2nd or 3rd trimester, I am happy to work on you.

What is ‘draping’ and do I have to have it?

During your massage, you will be draped to retain modesty at all times, only the body part being worked on will be exposed. You will be covered with a sheet and a blanket, with a hand towel used to cover women's breasts if abdominal work is done. This is for the safety of the client as well as the practitioner.

Do I have to be entirely undressed?

You are welcome to undress to your level of comfort. With the exception of the body part being worked on, you’ll always be covered with a sheet and blanket. If getting completely undressed is going to prevent you from being relaxed, please leave on whatever you require to be present. If you do decide to leave underwear (or more) on, understand it will affect what areas can be worked on, and how. If you have lower back issues, for example, it might be helpful to address the gluteus muscles which are more effectively accessed without clothes on.

What parts of my body will be massaged?

Your session will be tailored to your needs with work only on the areas you desire. You may prefer a massage only on the upper body, or a considerable amount of time on your feet, for example. If you have an injury or an area of intense discomfort, it might be difficult to get to every body part effectively. You might consider a 90 minute session if you want to make sure sufficient time is spent on the areas you’re concerned about. At no time will contact be made with the genitals or breasts.

Can I talk during a massage?

Absolutely. This is your time. Some people are much more comfortable talking during a massage than not. Others like to be totally silent. The most important thing is that you feel at ease; sometimes that means chatting at the beginning and tapering off as the massage continues.

It’s also important that you say something if some element of the massage is not working for you (pressure, temperature, music volume) or you remember something (your broken toe, a big bruise you want avoided, etc.) so you can get the full benefits of your session.

What if I’m embarrassed about my body?

My job is to help you return to your body, not judge or ogle it. The human body is an amazing machine and comes in all sizes and shapes. Hopefully therapeutic touch will help you move through any apprehension.

Do you do house calls?

Yes! In fact, I am currently only doing house calls since I am without an office space.

Does insurance cover your services?

I am not equipped to handle insurance claims. My services are out of pocket, but I’m more than happy to provide you with a receipt.
